Welcome to the first installment of Picture Book Prompts. I'm thrilled to kickstart this new blog series, designed especially for writers eager to begin storytelling.
Picture books hold a special place in literature. They're a canvas of vibrant illustrations and carefully chosen words that come together to create magic. In each installment, I'll present you with five picture book prompts centered around a theme. They'll be carefully curated to inspire fresh ideas, quirky characters, and captivating settings.
These prompts are designed to be the spark that ignites your storytelling journey, whether you're a seasoned author or just starting out writing for children. So, grab your favorite writing instrument, get comfy in your writing nook, and let's dive into the world of picture books. Let your imagination run wild and watch as your stories come to life.
Fall Picture Book Prompts
- Write about a child's first trip to an apple orchard. Do they learn about the lifecycle of an apple tree? Or do they get separated from their family in the corn maze?
- Write about a fall hike with a child trying to solve a nature themed scavenger hunt: I am looking for something green that moves, or I am looking for an animal's home.
- Write about a child who is trying to design the perfect Halloween costume for their furry friend.
- Write about a child who loses their favorite pair of mittens at the pumpkin patch.
- Write about a child being the youngest contestant in a pie baking competition. Does their pie delight the judges? Or do they go in a different direction all together?
Happy writing!
